INITIATIVES IN PUERTO RICO

As facilitators we believe in partnering with other non-profit organizations, the private sector and authorities to provide our children a safer environment. Puerto Rico is the Caribbean Island where our President & Founder was born.

Se Trata – Spanish for human trafficking - is the name given to the community program between the Ricky Martin Foundation and Doral Bank geared to protect children and youth in Puerto Rico from human trafficking, a form of modern day slavery, a human rights violation, a crime against the state and the individual
and a threat to human security.

Child Development and Prevention Center

In June 2009, RTL Foundation selected the Ricky Martin Foundation Child Development and Prevention Center in Loiza, Puerto Rico as the international project among other four other projects to be recipients of donations received during their renowned RTL Spendenmarathon. The Center will allow the children and youth at risk to receive an emotional and educational alternative that will maximize their potential as dignified human beings, proud of heir culture and heritage. Most importantly, their right to be children will be safeguarded. Construction should begin the last trimester of 2011.

For further information on how to assist us in turning this Center into a reality please send us an email to rmf@rmf-foundation.org.

 Missing Puerto Rican Network
Committed to our role as facilitators as an international organization that advocates for children's rights and protects this most vulnerable population, in August 2006 in alliance with Save the Children and the Police Department in Puerto Rico we launched www.puertorriquenosdesaparecidos.org. The aforementioned serves as a vital tool to protect missing persons, especially children. It allows government officials and society to inform about children or adults that are currently victims of sexual or labor exploitation, pornography, or kidnapping as a potential consequence of chats with strangers in the Internet  or human trafficking. In the American continent, 3000 children disappear each day.

This website conforms the Latin American Network for Missing Persons: The system has 15,000 cases on file. Regionally 7,000 missing persons have been located and an estimate of 300,000 people visit the website (www.latinoamericanosdesaparecidos.org).
