Arrested on charges of sex trafficking of minors

Agents from the Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a man
after being accused of sex trafficking of minors.

Rommel Cintron Pons, nicknamed "Peluquin" was accused pursuant to a
complaint from the U.S. Attorney's Office in which it is alleged that an informant
told authorities that he is dedicated to offering children for sex with tourists for
commercial purposes.

He charged $1,500 for each child for one hour of services. The subject was
arrested at a time when five girls were being transported to a house in Rio
Grande for prostitution. Subsequently, children were interviewed and some of
them said they had previously worked with the accused and that he paid $100.

Cintron Pons appeared this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Marcos
Lopez, who informed him that he is exposed to a minimum sentence of 10 years
in prison up to life imprisonment.

Judge granted the request of the Attorney's Office for the defendant to remain
held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Guaynabo. Lopez scheduled the
preliminary hearing and bond hearing for July 18 at 1:30 pm.

The case is in charge of the federal fiscal Dina Avila.
